Volunteer

Interested in joining the Knights Landing Volunteer Fire Department?

Becoming a Volunteer firefighter takes some steps. It is not as easy as just showing up one day and getting a new pair of turnouts and helmet handed to you.

  1. You need to be 18.
  2. A fire academy is not required, however, an academy will not only help you when you are out in the field, it will help you to see that being a firefighter is not an easy task. There are lots of colleges locally that offer an accredited fire academy.
  3. An EMT or Paramedic card is not needed to start, however you will see that the majority of our calls are medical in nature, so by that virtue, you need to have medical training to further your career. An EMT class will teach you the basics of assessing and treating a sick or injured patient, while a Paramedic class will expand on your EMT knowledge and allow you to perform advanced medical techniques such as placing an IV and administering life saving drugs. These classes are offered both through private agencies and through local colleges.
  4. You will need a clean driving record and to pass a background check.
  5. Apply and Interview.  Our interviewers will ask you a series of questions to try and weed out the good candidates from the bad.

If you have the right stuff, we would love to invite you into our family. Join us at one of our monthly meetings to learn more or call at (530) 735-6409 and leave a message inquiring about becoming a volunteer.
